A dark ruby-red wine, with the use of oak this St Laurent has an intense nose of spiced warm cherries, with a hint of dark chocolate. A very smooth palate with a firm structure and elegant tannins. More spiced cherries, with smokey undertones, bitter chocolate and characteristic white pepper on the finish. this wine will benefit from being opened about an hour before drinking.
The vineyards are around Oberwaltersdorf & have barren alluvial soil with high limestone content & large pebbles on the surface
Selective hand-picking of the ripest and finest grapes. 50% are de-stemmed & crushed, 50% are left as whole clusters. Cold maceration for five days at 8 °C, fermentation occurs with natural yeasts & pressed 18 days after fermentation starts. Everything in oak casks for 16 months - 30% in new oak, the rest in used (second or third fill).
