Rotgipfler 2008/2009
The Rotgipfler grape is indigenous to the Thermenregion of Austria and can only be found on the hills just outside of Oberwaltersdorf where the Hartl winery is based. This wine is a very fresh, distinctive white with expressive spicy notes and hints of exotic fruits. Again on the palate you can taste tropical fruits, (melon, lychee) with layers of citrus and intriguing flavours of spice (ginger, white pepper) all coming together to create a long developing finish. The wine has a creamy rich structure, tingling acidity and a little residual sugar that makes it even more charming. Aging on the lees for 5 months adds touches of richness and complexity, and this wine will drink well now and over the next 5 years. Along with rich creamy cheeses, such as Chaource, Rotgipfler is also a perfect accompaniment to a variety of Asian dishes.
